The
Spitfire Grill
The production is based on a 1989
movie by Lee David Zlotoff “The
Spitfire Grill’. The music was
inspired by rural folk music traditions
indigenous to
Wisconsin
and Southern Appalachia. The story is about a
young parolee, Percy Talbot, trying to make a
new start, working at the grill, in a closed,
narrow-minded, dying Wisconsin town. The owner
of the grill, Hanna Ferguson, is a cantankerous
old woman with a secret to hide. After Hanna
accidentally breaks her leg, Percy must run the
grill by herself. Hanna’s nephew, Caleb's wife,
Shelby, steps in to help, and the two younger
women become fast friends. The town’s sheriff,
Joe, is assigned to keep an eye on the young
Percy, but falls for her, instead. The town
gossip, Effy, keeps her nose in everyone’s
business, and the mysterious stranger lurks at
the edge of all the drama that life serves up at
the Spitfire.
